Valentines Day Scavenger Hunt

(So, this is a small story about Phineas and Isabella making the most out of their valentines day.) Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me.

Part 1:

Phineas rings the doorbell nervously. He places down a small box of chocolates and a card on the welcome mat, and runs out of sight just as the door opens.

Isabella Garcia-Shapiro looks left, and then right, finally looking down. "What's this?" she kneels down and opens the plain white card. "You have been invited on a valentines day scavenger hunt?"

She picks up the box and the card and takes them inside. Phineas grins from behind a tree where he had watched the entire thing. "Perfect!" He runs back to his house, where Ferb has just finished printing out the clues. "Thank-you so much, Ferb. Your handwriting is so much better than mine."

The green haired Brit rolls his eyes and smiles. "No kidding."

Phineas can swear that his platypus snorts. "Okay, I gotta go hide these." He grabs the several clues, and runs out the door. He waves at his brother standing in the window as he heads down the road toward the center of Danville.

Ferb goes out to the backyard to wait for Isabella to figure out enough clues. Eventually, she'll meet up with Phineas in the backyard to fly in a new Sun-Beater3000 to Paris where he will hopefully make up for what he did three years ago when they were racing the sun around the world. Meanwhile, Ferb could relax under the tree while Phineas and Isabella work like crazy to set up and follow the clues. Perry lies down on Ferb's lap while the boy works on a poem for someone.

Isabella reads the small note on top of the chocolates in the box. "Each of these chocolates contains a note, but make sure not to eat them in the wrong order. Follow the clues, to find the order in which to eat the chocolates, but make sure not to bite through the clue!" She looks for another clue anywhere in the box, making sure not to disturb the chocolates.

"Isa, can you come in here please?" Vivian calls from the kitchen. Isabella shrugs, and follows her mother's voice. Vivian hands her a heart shaped cookie off of a cooling rack. "Read it first, mi hija." She says as Isabella goes to take a bite of the cookie.

Sure enough, the pink heart has red icing letters that spell out a message. "ZJNWG JJSOB MWFQI CKJJM BQFSL VJEZI EYPKC MEFLB MIBQR"

Isabella stares at the cookie, then up at her mother. "What does it mean?"

Vivian shrugs, "I have no idea. Someone told me to give that exact message to you on something heart shaped." She sighs and shakes her head. "That was the longest message that I've ever had to write in icing."

The thirteen year old girl grins at her mother. "I'm going to go try and decode this." she hugs Vivian and walks into the living room where she sits down with the cookie on the coffee table in front of her. "So... time for me to earn my valentines day clue decoding patch." She thinks through all of the codes that she knows. "Okay, so Mom said something about making sure that the message included a heart. That's a key indicator of the code requiring a... key." Isabella grins. "Maybe it's a Vigenere Cipher!"

Seconds later, she has decoded the message, using HEART as the key. "REMEMBERWHEREYOUFIRSTLEARNEDHOWTOSIEZETHEDAYX"

She thinks back, "Where I first learned to seize the day..." Lost in memories, Isabella leans into the backrest of the couch closing her eyes. "I met Phineas the first day of kindergarten, and he taught me to take advantage of every moment." Her eyes fly open. "The kindergarten!"

Part 2:

Isabella locks her bike onto the fence outside the old kindergarten. She runs to the front door, and is let in by her old teacher. "Hello Ms. Hughes."

The 32 year-old teacher smiles down at her favorite student. "Call me Amelia, Izzy."

"But that feels so strange." Amelia Hughes laughs and heads into the school, beckoning Isabella to follow her. "Where are we going?"

Amelia grins, "Someone came here just a few minutes ago and told me to give you a message. But I had to have a challenge for you to do before you could receive it."

Isabella squeals, jumping up and down. "Okay, now I know that this was all Phineas' idea." Calming down, she looks up at her first teacher. Ms. Hughes was on her very first year teaching when Isabella had come to kindergarten. "Wait, what's the challenge?"

"How did you get out of going to school today?" Amelia realizes something.

The girl shrugs. "Mom got a call from the school this morning, I guess. She just told me that I didn't have school today."

Amelia shrugs as well. "This challenge may help you earn one of your valentines day patches."

"Which one?" Isabella smiles, as sometimes the more specific patches are hard to find circumstances for.

The teacher smiles at her. "Got any that involve helping kindergarteners with their valentines exchange?"

Pulling out her fireside girl handbook, Isabella flips through to the list of patches. "Little Matchmaker Patch. Good, I don't have that one yet."

-------------------------------------

Phineas arrives in his backyard, finding Ferb still hard at work, and Perry curled up on his lap purring. "There. All set up... I really hope that the school didn't mind our parents giving us the day off."

Ferb shrugs. "I really hope that Mother remembered to call them."

Phineas sits down next to him. "What'cha writin'?"

"Nothing for you to see." Ferb slides over a bit, angling his clipboard so that Phineas can't see the words.

-------------------------------------

Isabella places a patch onto her sash. Her eyes are wide, and she's trembling a bit. "You okay?" Amelia places a hand on the teen's shoulder. "Yeah... twenty something kids that have been eating chocolate all day aren't exactly the sweetest things in the world. Here's your clue, though." The kindergarten teacher passes a small white card to Isabella. "I'm supposed to tell you to make sure and have fun today."

Nodding, Isabella heads out of the kindergarten. She sits down on a jungle gym platform and opens the note. "KVH ZCF KZL UIS ERS YVB MJI XNW TBZ KAC XOV KAW XNH ZDA KCS XZL"

"Okay, I'm going to assume that it's the same code as last time." She tries using heart as the key again, but all she gets is "CQG HIX FYT AAN DZY QQA UPA SME ZTU JII PJU SGO SMP FVV JKY PUK" Isabella leans forward over her lap, thinking. "Well... that didn't work." Looking at the original coded message again, she notices that the letters are broken up into three letter groups. "Maybe the key is fun!"

After she uses the word FUN as the key, the message reads, "EAT THR EEX ONE YWE SAN GOU RSI NGL EFO RTH EFI RST TIM EHE REX"

"Ookay..." Isabella opens the chocolate box. Sure enough, the chocolates are marked like a grid. She looks at the one in the square marked 3X-1Y. It's shaped like an airplane. "Maybe I should write the shapes of the chocolates down in my notebook. They might be important." She draws a small airplane on a fresh page in her notebook, and carefully starts to nibble around the edge of the delicious chocolate. "Only Phineas and Ferb could have put this together. Who else can make custom chocolates and I'm assuming set up a trail of clues all over Danville- Ow!" Isabella's teeth hit a piece of metal inside the chocolate, sending a streak of pain through her jaw. "Yeah. Custom inscribed metal clues inside of chocolates? Nobody other than them could do that."

----------------------------------------

"Do you think that I should have warned her that the clues were written on bracelet charms?" Phineas asks his brother.

Ferb raises one eyebrow at him. "Probably."

----------------------------------------

Isabella stares at the small charm in her hand. "It's an airplane. Just like the chocolate." She turns it over, spotting the inscription on the back. One word, "We"

"We?" Shrugging, she goes to place the small silver airplane into her pocket, when it clinks against the empty bracelet that Phineas gave her for her birthday. There is already one charm on the bracelet, a butterfly. "Maybe I'm supposed to put this on the bracelet." Removing the bracelet, she holds the airplane up to a link, trying to figure out how to attach it without a chain loop.

Suddenly, the charm flies out of her fingers, pulled to a chain link with a small A carved on it. The small loop attached to the airplane opens up around the chain link and closes again, now connected to the bracelet. "If at this point I still had any doubt that Phineas and Ferb are behind this, that would have convinced me."

Isabella shakes her head, grinning as she clips the bracelet back around her wrist, packing everything else back into her bag. "We sang our single for the first time here. Googolplex Mall, obviously." Getting on her bike, Isabella heads toward the mall.

Part 3:

Isabella walks into the mall with a huge smile on her face. "Now... who do I talk to?" She scans the crowd in the center of the mall.

A young police officer walks in her direction. "Are you Isabella Garcia-Shapiro?"

"Yes..." Isabella wonders if she's in trouble for not being in school.

The police officer grins. "My boss told me that I was supposed to come and give you some things." Holding out a piece of the familiar white cardstock towards her, the young man smiles kindly. When Isabella reaches out for it, though, he pulls it away. "But first, I have an easy little challenge for you."

Inwardly, she groans, but Isabella keeps a smile on her face. "What is it?"

"You know how to hand out pamphlets?" another grin from the police officer.

The teenager rolls her eyes, "Um... my fireside girls troop and I usually end up delivering pamphlets almost every day for the things my best friends do."

He laughs. "Well, I need you to distribute these pamphlets for a valentines day dance tonight." The officer hands her a large stack of papers that have hearts all over them. "Report back to me when you're done."

------------------------------

"Wow, I'm impressed. You did that really fast." Smiling, the young man gives Isabella the clue, and also a small tag on a beaded chain. "This is a pass for you to show anybody who asks you if you're supposed too be in school."

Isabella smiles. "Thank-you, officer." She heads over to a bench by the retro-pharmacist store to decode the next clue.

"VALENTINE ABFBCRCKT UZAZHOCCW AEYJWHBDF JJEMVYASC" She notices how each group of letters is the same length as the word VALENTINE.

"Valentine must be the key." After decoding, the clue reads, "EATWOXTWO YYOUTUTOR EDMEINSPA NISHHEREX"  Isabella rubs her forehead. "I'm going to have to space out the words on this one."

"Eat 2X-2Y. You tutored me in Spanish here." She grins. "The library!" Last year, Phineas had been having trouble in Spanish, and Isabella tutored him to an A+.

She gently takes the center chocolate out of the box, and knowing what to expect now, she carefully eats around the charm inside. This one is a small silver rendition of the Eifel Tower with the word BEAT on the back. "Beat... We beat." She holds the charm up to the next link on the bracelet, and it connects itself just like the last one. "An airplane and the Eifel Tower. I wonder if... No. He wouldn't take me to Paris..."

She heads back out to her bike, puzzling over the clues she has so far.

Part 4:

"Hello Lisa!" Isabella walks up to her favorite librarian.

Lisa looks up, grinning. "Happy Valentines Day, Bella." Lisa is reading what appears to be a romance novel. "Your boyfriend was just here. He left this for you." She pushes a very familiar looking clue up onto the counter.

Isabella glares at the young librarian. "He's not my boyfriend." She pauses, looking sideways at Lisa curiously, "Did he say that he was?"

"Who are we talking about here?" Lisa sighs, closing her book. "If you mean the guy that left all these clues, then no, he didn't say that. But judging on the books that he wants you to take out for your challenge, he will be soon."

"My challenge?" The teenager quickly straightens up. "What is it?"

Lisa hands her a list of titles. "If you want this clue" she points to the piece of cardstock on the check-out counter, "You need to bring all these books to the counter here."

Isabella flashes the librarian a quick grin as she heads toward the stacks. "Be back after the wipe, Marian." Lisa rolls her eyes. Isabella has been calling her Marian after Lisa preformed as the female lead in The Music Man one summer.

-------------------------

"I got all of the books, Lisa." Isabella rubs her forehead, faking exhaustion.

Lisa looks through them, smiling. "Perfect." She winks at Isabella. "The good news is, you don't have to carry them all through town."

Every single book had the word LOVE in the title. "This scavenger hunt was very well planned out." Isabella looks at the clue that Lisa hands her. "Each group of letters contains four characters. The same amount as in the word LOVE, so I'm going to assume that the key is LOVE." Isabella sighs.

"QPPY IDTY TGAJ KIEJ UHJT AQFJ OITC" She shakes her head. "I'm going to go sit down to translate this, Lisa. Thanks for the help."

"No problem, Izzy." Lisa leans back in her office chair and opens her book again. A patron carries up several books to the counter to check them out. "Aww, come on."

-----------------------

"So how far do you think she is now, Ferb?" Phineas leans toward his brother, trying to read what he's writing.

Ferb hides the clipboard. "Phineas, I don't read the diary you keep under your mattress." Perry snorts, quickly trying to cover it up with a sneeze. Perry has read both of the boys' diaries when they are out of the house.

-------------------------

"Eat 2X-3Y. Tie is no object." Isabella thinks back through everything they've ever done during summer. "The time machine in the museum! Aww, he repeated his spelling mistake!" She opens the chocolate box, removing the designated chocolate- this one is shaped like a baguette- and eating around the charm inside. The charm is also a loaf of French bread, with THE engraved on the back. After it attaches to her bracelet, she heads back out to her bike, waving at Lisa, who has a line-up of patrons waiting for help. "She's not getting back to her book today."

Part 5:

Isabella finds another clue on the time machine. "What? No challenge this time?"

"What makes you think that?" Candace emerges from behind the time machine. "Of course there's a challenge."

Isabella smiles slightly, but looks at Candace confusedly. "How did you get here today?"

The college student shrugs. "I no longer question my brothers, Izzy." She laughs suddenly. "Do you want the clue or what?"

Grinning now, Isabella nods. "Oh yeah."

"You need to tell me everything my brothers did that summer three years ago." Candace smirks, placing one hand on her hip saucily. "If you can remember anything other than Phineas dressed as an astronaut."

---------------------

"Oh come on, Ferb!" Phineas has climbed the tree behind his brother and is leaning over him, still trying to read the words on the page.

Ferb rolls his eyes. "Tell you what. You leave me alone until I'm done, and I'll let you proofread it."

Climbing down out of the tree, Phineas yelps as he scratches his chest on the bark. "Okay." Once on the ground, he peers down his shirt at the scratch. "I'm going to run inside to clean this up. Call me when Isabella's here."

After the enthusiastic optimist is out of earshot, Ferb turns to his platypus. "With the challenges that kid has set up, Isabella will be lucky if she gets here before school's out."

------------------------

"Impressive." Candace smirks. "And I got that all down on this recorder, so I just need to send this sound file to Irving for confirmation." Isabella pulls out a water bottle and takes several chugs. Candace smiles, pulling out her phone. "He says you got everything. Here's your clue."

"Thanks... Candace." The younger girl takes the card from the college student, who shrieks as she slowly disappears. "I'll tell Phineas that he's 'so busted' for you!"

"COCOA HPWII UTHMU KGHTZ WWHCF AIFAV HXVPU WWHEB UZAMY" Isabella groans. "Aww, Phineas. I love these coded messages and all, but they're starting to get annoying."

Part 6:

Isabella mimes exhaustion again, sitting in the seat of the time machine after decoding the message.
"Eat 3X-3Y. The next clue is at the park." She smiles a bit, "Hey, it isn't a riddle this tim-" A puzzled look creeps across her face, "Where in what park? There's over five parks in Danville."

She opens the chocolates, eating the one in the bottom corner which is shaped like a picnic basket. She stares at the charm for a long time before she attaches it to her bracelet. Suddenly, she remembers something, "The picnic!" Isabella grins, "That must be the park he's talking about!"

Running to her bike, she sings happily under her breath. There is no particular meaning to the song. It's just made up out of the words that come into her mind sung to whatever tune she thinks up.

"I thought he didn't know,
I guessed that he didn't care,
I was ready to give up!
I guess I was wrong!
He took his time planning this,
I guess I could have seen,
Maybe he's not so clueless,
As we all thought!
Phineas Flynn did something romantic,
Though he probably had help from Ferb!
Who cares about all the years,
I was practically ignored?
Who cares about all the years,
I was practically ignored?
Not me!"
When she arrives at the park, she spots a checkered blanket on the ground under a tree with a basket on it. "Hello?"
"BOO!" Isabella shrieks and jumps backward as Ginger swings down from the tree, binoculars in her hands.
"Not funny, Ginger." Isabella glares at her fellow fireside girl. "Let me guess, I need to do some strange challenge to get the next clue?"
Ginger Hirano laughs. "No, actually. You just need to decode the clue. If you can find it." She winks at her friend, "I have a treasure map for you, and a purple striped fake beard and mustache."
Isabella sighs, shaking her head. "Where are they?"
"In the basket. There's a snack in there too, if you're hungry." Ginger waves as she climbs back up into the tree. Her friend stares after her as she leaps out of the top of the tree on an orange hang glider with a fedora motif on it. Ginger isn't sure why her sister has the hang glider stored on the roof, but it sure has come in handy today.
The thirteen year old gives up on trying to figure anything out today and sits down next to the basket. Opening it, she finds a simple map and the beard that Ginger had mentioned as well as the snack.
-------------------------------
Ferb looks over the latest version of his poem. He sighs, "I may be good at a lot of things, but poetry is not one of them."
Perry chatters sympathetically. He climbs up on his owner's lap, trying to read what he's written. The poem is actually really good, though it seems tilted toward the dark side. "Krrrrrr."
-------------------------------
Following the map while wearing the hideous purple beard, Isabella reaches a small band of trees. "Well, this is it." She steps into the center of the trees, entering a place that she's never seen before. "Woah..." The trees form a high textured ceiling that lets the winter sunlight through in places to create a pattern of light on the almost snow free ground.
There is a moss covered pillar of rocks almost reaching the top of the canopy of bare branches. Pulling her jacket closer around her, Isabella starts to climb, using well worn hand and foot holds and branches from the trees to pull herself up the pillar. As she reaches the top, she almost lets go and falls, she is so surprised.
In front of her there is a place that is obviously being used as a clubhouse by Phineas and Ferb. There is an invisible ceiling and walls keeping several brightly coloured cushions from the elements, and a bookshelf containing several novels and non-fiction books. On a purple cushion, there is another clue and a plain note. This note is in a different hand, and Isabella reads it first. "What'cha doin'? Oh right, you're following my string of clues on a romantic Valentines day scavenger hunt. So, feel free to leave the beard here, and I guess I'll see you at the final destination soon. -Phineas"
"Good, this beard is getting itchy." She says as she removes it from her face. She reads the clue, settling down against a pink cushion to read and decode it. "WPGPBHC LWEFSBF XIRSMRZ JIROHKG AGGIRDD AIBPYBT MDHUTRW ARRDFHF EMKYLAC"
------------------------------
Phineas sits down next to Ferb again. "Ginger just called. Isabella should be at our clubhouse by now." He smiles at his step-brother, "Thanks for letting me use it as a hiding place for a clue."
"No problem."Ferb looks over the poem again, having just rewritten it for the eighth time. "You can read this now." He hands the clipboard to Phineas, who reads it carefully.
Ferb watches his brother's face carefully, "This is really good, Ferb. Is it for Vanessa?" Nodding, the British teen takes his poem back. Phineas lifts Perry up onto his lap, "I wonder if Isabella will be here soon?"

Part 7:

Isabella grins at the decoded message. "Eat 1X-3Y. After your tenth birthday I took you out for ice cream." Standing up, she starts climbing down the rocks. "Looks like I'm going to the ice cream shop." When she reaches the bottom, Isabella starts nibbling around the edges of the designated chocolate that looks like an ice cream cone with a cherry on top.

She attaches the matching charm to her bracelet. The message now reads "We Beat The Sun At..."

On her way to the Ice Cream Shop, Isabella tries to remember the song that she had sung on the way to the park, but she can't remember the exact words or tune.

----------------------------

Perry's watch beeps. Phineas looks over at Ferb, confused. "Do you hear that?"

The secret agent wriggles out of his owner's arms and runs into the house, where he puts on his fedora and steps into a vase of flowers on the table. Strangely, he disappears inside and slides down a tube into his lair, surrounded by wet flowers.

-----------------------------

"Hello Isabella." Arnie barely looks up from his comic book. "I have another clue for you, but first you need to help me out."

Arnie is the ice cream server at Danville's Ice Cream Shop. He is always doing something else, so ordering is always a game. You're never sure which flavour you will get, because he usually just goes for the flavour that he can reach without moving. "What do I do, Arnie?" Isabella smiles, because she knows that she's going to be serving ice cream while he reads his comic book.

"Sell the ice cream. If they order something that's empty, just grab a flavour that looks similar. When you've served fifteen orders, I'll give you the clue." He retreats to the back, and Isabella puts on an apron and washes her hands, then steps behind the counter, where she proceeds to take and serve orders to the small lineup in the store.

People with allergies never really come to the Ice Cream Shop because they're never sure what allergens will be in the ice cream that they receive.

-----------------------------

Arnie looks up from his book, surprised at how fast Isabella has finished. "Nice job, I'm impressed. Here's your clue." He hands her the clue politely. "Feel free to serve yourself an ice cream of your choice and sit down in here to decode it." He moves up to his normal chair and everyone in the lineup groans.

Isabella serves herself a single scoop of watermelon swirl, the farthest one from where Arnie sits. She orders it every time she comes here, but she's never actually had it before. She places $2.00 on the counter as she passes to grab her bag and hang up the apron. Sitting down at a booth, she licks her cone, opening the clue. "ICECREAM NDYRFJYG FRDQWCUP UXJLKFUG QHHHFYFE XIYROSYK"

"Well, I guess that I'd better get to work." She smiles. "Wow, this watermelon ice cream is really good."

-----------------------------

Perry stands in the corner of the room filled with secret agents. O.W.C.A's Valentines day party is always pretty boring until Monogram chooses some poor agent to be the "Valentiner". Then it's either just humiliating -if you're the "Valentiner"- or amusing if you're not.

"Agent P, you're this years Valentiner!" All eight Agent Ps look at each other nervously. "Um, I mean, Peter the panda!"

Peter slumps forward. He slowly walks up to Carl, who dresses him in the giant red and pink costume. "I hate Valentines day." Perry makes sure not to smile, because the last agent who had laughed at the "Valentiner" was forced to put on the sidekick costume.

Part 8:

Isabella finishes decoding the clue, reading it quietly. "Eat 1X-2Y. Next clue is at the center of town. Well, that's not a very creative clue." She wonders if Phineas was hurrying at this point of the setup. She lifts out the chocolate, which is shaped like a rainbow. This charm is not entirely silver, but is coloured on the stripes with white clouds.

The word "Its" is inscribed on the back. "So, we beat the sun at its..."

------------------------------

"I wonder where Perry went." Phineas has climbed the tree and is leaning back against the trunk with a math book on his lap, working on homework.

Ferb smiles. He's working on a story for creative writing now, and he looks up at his brother. "Math doesn't usually take you this long. What's wrong?"

"I'm worried that this whole thing will give her the wrong idea." Phineas looks down at his math work, "Oh, I accidentally put the right answers for all of these questions." Pulling out his eraser, he rubs out the answers to a certain calculated amount of questions to make it believably done by a thirteen year old boy.

------------------------------

Perry receives his pile of Valentines from the "Valentiner," still trying not to snicker at Peter's plight.

"Oh, shut up." The panda glares out from the hole in the costume for his face.

Agent P smiles a little at this, "I didn't say anything."

-----------------------------

Isabella arrives at the place where the four superheroes from New York had ended up winning the fight against those pesky superheroes. Irving is sitting on some steps, looking through his scrapbook and squealing from time to time. Isabella has grown slightly less wary of the creepy boy over the last three years, but walking up to him in a public place while he's squealing with joy over a photo or video is slightly embarrassing. "Hey, Irving."

"Hello Isabella." Irving puts away the scrapbook. "Sorry about that, listening to you recite everything that Phineas and Ferb did that summer got me excited."

"No kidding." She carefully sits down next to him. "So what do I have to do to get the next clue?"

Irving shrugs. "I was told to come up with a challenge, but I drew a blank." He thinks for a moment. "If you get me a picture of you kissing Phineas, I'll give it to you without a challenge."

Isabella punches him, hard. "No."

"Okay, how about you tell me where their clubhouse is?" Irving has been trying to locate the place where Phineas and Ferb go to hide from him ever since they started disappearing.

She glares at him. "Again, no."

"Then I guess you have to do the only challenge that I could come up with." He opens up a backpack by his side and pulls out a notebook and pen. "I need you to interview Bobby Fabulous for the school newspaper." Irving hands the items to Isabella and points her to Bobby's Salon. "I'll be here when you're done."

--------------------------------

"I'm done." Isabella hands Irving the  now very full notebook back. "He wouldn't stop talking."

Irving looks through the notebook in awe. "Is this shorthand?"

Putting her left hand on her hip, Isabella holds out the other one for the clue. "I did what you said. Now give me the clue."

"Here." He puts the notebook into his backpack and hands her the clue. "The good thing is, I have a friend who can read any shorthand."

Isabella sits down and opens the clue. "CLUE HMOT QQST QQTT FQVS DOXJ VESC"

---------------------------------

Carl leans back against the wall of the room that the party is in. His phone rings in his pocket. "Hello?"

"Hey Carl, I have some shorthand that I need turned into English." Irving's voice comes through the phone.

The intern smacks his forehead. "I need to get to my station. Tell me on the way, Irving."

Part 9:

"Eat 1X-1Y. Ocean access?" Isabella looks for Irving to ask about the clue, but he's disappeared. "I guess there's really only one place to access the ocean in Danville."

She eats the chocolate very carefully. The charm is a glass bottle with a silver boat inside it. "Wow... This one looks so delicate." The tiny bottle slips from her fingers, and hits the ground. "No!" But when she reaches down to find it, the bottle isn't even scratched. She looks all over the charm, but there is no word on it.

-----------------------------------

Carl -dressed as a kid- sits back on the bench and looks through the folder that Irving gave him. "Yeah, I can translate this for you. Drop it at my house, okay?" The teen nods, and runs off.

-----------------------------------

Perry puts the valentines in his cubicle to read later. He's really curious to see how the scavenger hunt is going. He straps on his jetpack, flying to the location after the harbor, where he set up a nice hiding place for himself to watch the action.

-----------------------------------

Isabella runs up to Carl. "Are you the person I'm supposed to see?"

"Yes, yes I am." Carl closes his book and looks up at her.

She pauses for a moment, "How did Phineas even track you down? We haven't seen you since the day we defied gravity for the first time."

Carl blinks. "You guys have defied... never mind, of course you have." He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a list. "If you want the next clue, you need to find everything on that list and bring it to me. You should be able to find all nine items within a twenty foot radius."

Grinning, Isabella takes the list and heads off. Carl picks up his book again -How To Live Under Evil Dictatorship By Candace Flynn (Retired Head of The Resistance)- and continues reading.

----------------------------------

"I'm done!" Carl looks up in surprise as several ocean-type items are dumped on his lap by a giggling thirteen year old girl. "Must be some book. You didn't even notice me come up."

Isabella raises her eyebrows and puts out her hand for the clue. "It is a good book. I can't actually just give you the next clue though, because it comes with some instructions."

---------------------------------

"So, Nessa told you about the last location?" Phineas is working on his science homework now.

Ferb tutored Vanessa for her last year of high school sciences, and this sparked a friendship. "Yes, she said that her father is always building strange things that would be great places to hide clues."

The younger boy climbs down from the tree, finished all of his homework that's due for the next two weeks. "You want to enter this years Engineering Contest For Kids?"

"No, how about we let Thaddeus and Thor win this year." Ferb has copied the final draft of his poem onto a piece of thick homemade paper, and is getting ready to deliver it to it's intended recipient.

---------------------------------

"So I need this key to get in, and I need to ask for Vanessa when the door is answered... Like, Ferb's friend Vanessa?" Isabella asks Carl.

Carl smiles, "Yeah. How's that going for him?"

Shrugging, she answers, "No idea. He only really talks to Phineas about her."

"So that's pretty much it. Do you want your next clue now? Once you've decoded it, I can give you directions if you need them." Carl picks up his book again, taking extreme care to cover the author's name with his hand as he reads.

"ALMOST FMGIAL FQKIPI ZFUXLV VUYSBH HUFHAU QQQABE FRRGUM IQNSQR"

Part 10:

Perry holds his breath as the owner of the apartment walks by. "I wonder where Vanessa went? Oh, maybe she's in the kitchen." As the man goes out of earshot, the agent relaxes a bit.

-----------------------

Isabella smiles. "Eat 3X-2Y. This building is shaped like Ferb's head." Carl looks up, but she doesn't need directions. On the way to her bike, she eats around the chihuahua shaped charm and attaches it to her bracelet.

-----------------------

She knocks on the door of the penthouse apartment, exhausted because the elevators are out of order. "Hello... are you here to sell cupcakes?" The man who answers the door is wearing a white labcoat, has mussed up brown hair and a large nose, and speaks with a German accent.

"No, I'm here to talk to Vanessa." Isabella has the strange feeling that she's seen him somewhere before. "Aren't you that guy that started the pharmacist apocalypse?"

"I don't like to dwell on that. Vanessa! There's an annoying little girl at the door for you!" Heinz walks back into his apartment, waving Isabella in and pointing her to a couch.

Vanessa groans, and comes in holding a small computer. "Dad!" She apologizes to the younger girl, and leads her down into the basement. "My father is... let's say an inventor. These are his old -for lack of a better term- inators. Your clue is hidden somewhere down here, and your challenge is to use this computer that Ferb gave me to locate the small metal chip attached to it."

"Okay..." Isabella looks at Vanessa curiously. "Why did you say for lack of a better term? The suffix -inator is on every one of these machines."

Shaking her head, Vanessa sighs. "My father is a little... odd."

Perry almost bursts out laughing, Odd is one way to describe him.

"He turned everyone in town into mindless pharmacists." Isabella raises her eyebrows at the older girl. "Odd is certainly right."

----------------------------

Ferb walks back into the backyard. Phineas hands him a slice of apple pie. "Mom said we could have some pie while we're waiting for Isabella."

The older teen nods. Smiling a little as he bites into the pie, he mentions, "As I was leaving, I saw her go into DEI." He doesn't mention that he also thought he saw Perry wearing a fedora. I couldn't have seen that.

"That means that she'll be here soon." Phineas reaches up to scratch his ear nervously, "I can't believe that I'm doing this."

His brother places a hand on his shoulder comfortingly, "She deserves to know how you feel, Phineas."

The redhead bites his lip, "I guess..."

----------------------------

Isabella copies the small map that's on the screen onto a sheet of paper from her notebook. She follows it through the many -inators scattered around. She stops in front of the one containing the clue, the Turn My Nemesis Evil Inator. There's a note on the machine that says, "Do not press any buttons!"

She carefully takes out the clue, and makes her way back to Vanessa. "Eat the last chocolate to get the final charm, then come to my backyard. I'll meet you there. -Phineas"

"Well, I guess we should head back out of here."

The last charm is shaped like a heart, and it says "Game" on the back. The bracelet now reads, "We beat the sun at it's own game."

Part 11:

Ferb smiles at Isabella as she pulls up in front of the house on her bike. "Mr. Hesitate is in the back yard."

"Mr. Hesitate?" She raises her eyebrows at him.

The boy rolls his eyes. "I had to leave. He kept asking if I think that he's doing the right thing."

Isabella tilts her head, "What?"

"Get in there. I'll see you later." Ferb waves her into the backyard.

-----------------------

"Hey Isabella, whatcha doin'?" Phineas is wearing a suit and tie, and he tosses her a dress. "Go put this on." He flashes Isabella his characteristic lopsided grin.

She runs inside and changes quickly. When she gets back outside, Phineas helps her into the Sun-Beater 3001. "So... what are we doing?"

"We're going to Paris for dinner, then I have a surprise for you." Isabella grins happily at him. He climbs into the Sun-Beater 3001 and sits down behind the steering mechanism. Phineas waves at Ferb, who lowers the house into the ground to let them pass. Linda screams from inside the house. "Bye, Ferb!"

Ferb waves, and raises the house back up. Linda runs outside, breathing heavily. "Wha- What was that?"

"Sorry, Mother. I needed to lower the house down to let the plane through." She stares at him, her mind not fully comprehending the sentence.

-----------------------------

"Phineas... Ferb said that you kept on asking him if you're doing the right thing? What did he mean?" Isabella looks down at her purple sparkly dress, then over at Phineas.

He grips the steering wheel tightly. "It's... You'll see once we get to Paris." He smiles, "So, how was your scavenger hunt?"

"It was fun. Irving tried to get me to give him the location of your clubhouse in return for the clue, though." Isabella smiles a little.

Phineas lets go of the wheel. "WHAT? You didn't give it to him, did you?" he asks, as they plummet toward the ocean at a speed that some might consider dangerous.

"Phineas, we're going to crash!" Isabella reaches over and pulls up on the wheel just in time to clear the Atlantic. "Of course I didn't tell him! It was private."

The thirteen year old boy sighs in relief and grabs the wheel again. "Thank-you." He guides them back on course, "I'm glad that you had fun. You know, Irving helped me find Carl."

"Oh. I was wondering about that. You know, because we only met him once." Isabella smiles a little.

Phineas lands the plane on the outskirts of Paris. "He's like, in college, you know."

--------------------------------

"Oh, there you are, Perry." Ferb kneels down to pick up his platypus. They go inside the house.

--------------------------------

"Phineas, why are we in Paris?" When Isabella asks this, Phineas bites his bottom lip.

He leads her into a small cafe, "I brought you here to make up for last time."

Isabella smiles a little. "I thought that you were clueless."

"I knew all along." He looks up at her. This is the moment he's been dreading all day.

She drops her menu. Isabella's mouth hangs open as she tries to form words, "So, you blatantly ignored me even though you knew that I'm in love with you?"

Phineas reaches across the table and takes her hand, "Because I wasn't ready yet." He looks into her eyes sadly. "I don't know if I'm ready now."

Isabella's eyes start to fill with tears, "You..."

"But I feel the same way about you." He squeezes her hand gently. "I just don't know if I'm mature enough to have a girlfriend."

-------------------------------

Major Monogram goes into his office, "Aah!" The Valentiner costume is torn up and in shreds all over the room. "Carl, call Agent Peter the panda in here now!"

-------------------------------

Isabella leans over the same railing that Vanessa had three years earlier. "What did you mean by that?"

Phineas hands her a rose. "Exactly what I said, Isabella. Maturity comes with age, and I'm only thirteen. I don't think that we're old enough to be dating."

"But..." He leans over and kisses her, almost making her drop the flower. When he backs up, his face beet red, she stares at him in astonishment. "Wh- Why did you do that?"

"I want to wait. I didn't say that I didn't want to kiss you." His face starts to return to a normal colour, the blush fading. "Can we wait at least three more years?"

Isabella hugs him tightly. "Yes, yes we can."

------------------------------

Phineas lands the Sun-Beater 3001 on a small island. "Do you want to sit and watch this beautiful sunset with me?"

Isabella nods, following him to a certain spot on the sand. "Hey look, Phineas. Your pit of desperation is still here."

Sure enough, there is still a deep hole in the centre of the island. Phineas winces, remembering how close he had been to losing the bet. "If you hadn't given me that pep-talk, we might all have still been here."

She sits down, facing the sunset and pats the sand beside her. "Come on. The sun's starting to set."

He sits down and takes her hand. The charm bracelet clinks and jangles. "So, how was your Valentines day?"

"Perfect." She leans over and kisses him just as the sun sinks below the horizon and everything goes dark.
