Thankful for little Brothers

Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me.

Heinz sits down with a sigh on his couch, and turns on the television. It's Thanksgiving, another holiday that he's never had much reason to celebrate. Vanessa is at her mother's, and Perry the platypus is on vacation.

He's never had much to be thankful for, even with his new life. The only time he ever celebrated the holiday was when he was married and Vanessa was little. Even then, he was mostly faking.

The show he's watching is on a Thanksgiving special. "Figures." He's too lazy to change the channel, so he just slumps on the couch and stares at the family celebrating their holiday.

"Michael, what's wrong?"

"Well, I can't think of anything to be thankful for."

"What if we made a list?"

"A list?"

"Yeah, of things to be thankful for."

"What good would that do?"

"Well, it would be fun."

"A list?" The scientist sits up slightly. Making a list of what few things there are that he is thankful for might cheer him up.

He turns off the TV, grabbing a sheet of lined paper and a mechanical pencil. Pulling out a chair, he sits down at the table.

At the top of the paper, he writes, "I'm Thankful For:"

Heinz stares at the three words for a few moments, than adds another line. "Vanessa."

"Perry the platypus.

 Running water, I guess.

Electricity is nice, too.

A roof over my head?

Muffins. Definitely muffins.

I guess even Norm."

The man blinks, "Wow. I didn't know there were so many things to be thankful for."

"Almond brittle,

doonkleberry cake,

just cake in general,

blueprints,

Snow. I actually like snow.

...

I think I'm even thankful for my little brot-"

A knock on the door interrupts him in the middle of the sentence. "Who would be coming here?"

He opens the door to find Roger standing on the other side. "Hello, Heinz."

"Roger?" Heinz raises an eyebrow, "What are you doing here?"

The mayor of Danville looks down at the ground, "Well, it's Thanksgiving..." He smiles slightly, "And you're all the family I've got. Everyone else is still in Druselstein."

His older brother smiles. "Well, come on in, Roger. I've got some turkey dinner shepherds pie in the fridge that Vanessa made me, and there's enough for two."
