May The Fourth Be With You

(So to celebrate Star Wars day, I wrote a Phineas and Ferb Star Wars one-shot about when the boys find out Perry is a rebel spy. Enjoy!) Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me.

“Hey Perry, you’ll never guess what we did today!” Phineas runs into his bedroom and picks up his pet, Ferb following with a smile on his face. “The pod racer we were building? It won the race today!”

Perry smiles, a little sadly. Today could be the last day he gets to spend with the boys. I wish I could tell you guys… He suddenly cuddles closer to his owner, wishing that he didn’t have to leave.

Ferb reaches out and strokes the platypus’ head gently. “He’s sad about something today.”

Phineas sits down on his bed and holds his pet up where he can see him. “You’re right, Ferb. I wonder what’s wrong?”

------------------------

The platypus raises his eyebrows at his boss, You want me to do what? But Francis can’t read Perry’s thoughts.

“I said, you need to move up here for at least a month.” Francis crosses his arms at the rebel agent.

Perry sighs. He pulls a piece of paper out of nowhere and writes something on it with a pencil. “Then I’m going to tell my boys.”

The man stares at him. “You’ll never be allowed to go back.”

The rebel platypus smiles sadly. He writes on the paper, “Last time I was on an extended mission, by the time I got back they had scoured the entire planet looking for me. I don’t want them to have to go through that again.” Perry looks down at the ground, and adds, “Every time I go on these missions, I’m at risk of life or imprisonment. If I vanished, and they didn’t know where I was… I can’t do that to them.”

Francis nods, “Alright, Agent P. Do you need a pamphlet?”

Perry holds one up in response and heads into the boys’ bedroom to wait for them to get back from Jedi lessons.

Phineas runs into the room and sees him sitting up on the bed with a pamphlet, a notepad, and a pencil in his lap. “Ferb?”

“Perry?” Ferb stares at his pet, and then looks at his brother, who is also staring at their pet. “What’s going on?”

The platypus sighs and writes something down on the notepad. “I’m leaving. I wanted to tell you where and why I’m going. I didn’t want you to panic again.”

Phineas gasps, “Again? You… you left?”

Perry winces, and writes something else. “I’m an agent for the rebellion. They’ve been sending me on more and more extended missions lately.”

Ferb blinks. “You’re a rebel?”

Nodding, the family pet hands his owners the pamphlet. Phineas hesitates, but reads it. “But it says here that if we find out, you’ll be sent away forever. How did you get around that?”

The platypus looks away, and Phineas stares, suddenly realising that his pet is never going to come back. “You didn’t. You- you’re leaving. Forever.” Then he throws the pamphlet on the floor. “You can’t be serious! Why would you wait until now to tell us? Why… why?” He glares at his pet, the hurt showing in his eyes. “You’ve put us all in danger! Do you know what the Empire would do to our family if they knew a rebel lived here?”

Ferb places a comforting hand on his step-brother’s shoulder. “Phineas, please.”

Perry writes something down, “I have another mission tomorrow. I would have been gone over a month. Last time, it scared you so much when I vanished… I just…”

Phineas shrugs out from under Ferb’s hand. “I have chores to do.” He runs out of the room, leaving his brother alone with their pet.
Holding out a hand to Perry, Ferb smiles a little. But he’s scared a bit, too. “Have you ever gotten hurt?”

Taking his owner’s hand, Perry shakes his head, but writes something down. “Not badly, I guess. Every now and then… Are you mad too?”

Blinking at the abrupt change in conversation, Ferb sighs. “I’m not sure… I’m a little hurt that you didn’t tell us before, but I get it if you were going to be sent away forever.” He pulls his pet into a hug, “You should talk to Phineas one more time before you go. Maybe tonight, after he’s had a chance to cool off.”

Perry chatters nervously, but keeps hugging the boy. When they finally break apart, he writes, “I have to go on a short mission today… I should be back by dark.”

Ferb winces, “Don’t get hurt.”

-----------------------------------

“Phineas?” The boy calls to the shaking lump in the corner of the dark room. Sobs are coming from under the thick blanket. “Can we talk?”

The lump moves, “We’re never going to see him again. He could die! We could all be killed.” Phineas pokes his head out, “He’s going to be just like Candace. Gone.”

Ferb sits down next to his brother and best friend. “But we’ll know that he’s safe.”

“Being a rebel is not safe. He could be killed, imprisoned, tortured…” Phineas wipes away the tears on his cheeks. “I just don’t want him to be hurt.” He looks up at Ferb, “Where is he, by the way?”

Putting an arm around Phineas, Ferb slides a little closer and leans into his brother. Phineas smiles and hugs him back, waiting for an answer. “He wants to talk to you again. He said that he will be back by dark.”

Phineas pulls away sharply, “Where is he going?”

Standing up, Ferb puts out a hand to help his brother up. “I don’t know.” He lies, not wanting his brother to panic over Perry’s safety. Ferb is worried about his pet, sure, but that doesn’t mean his brother has to be too.

“He told you he had a mission, didn’t he?” Phineas knows Ferb better than anyone, “You just don’t want me to freak out again.”

Ferb nods, “I’ve never seen you anything other than…”

Phineas smiles sadly, “Happy? Yeah… I guess I just really want things never to change, you know?”

His brother nods, and lifts Phineas to his feet. “I know.”

-------------------------------

“It’s dark. Both the suns have set. Where’s Perry?” Phineas is pacing back and forth in the boys’ bedroom. Ferb is lying on his bed, facing the wall. They are both still waiting for their pet to show up.

Meanwhile, Perry is fighting with Darthenshmirtz on his spaceship. Rats, I’m going to be late for the boys. He checks his watch, and sighs.

Vaulting over his nemesis easily, the rebel agent tosses a piece of junk into the self-destruct port. He flies away in his platypus shaped spaceship to the sound of, “Curse you Perry the rebel-pus!”

He looks down at the bleeding cut on his side, lifting his tunic to examine it carefully. They are going to be so mad… He ties a makeshift bandage around his torso. Darthenshmirtz had trapped him under a sharp heavy bar today. Literally a metal bar with a sharpened edge.

When the agent sneaks into the boys’ room almost an hour after he had promised to be there, he’s kind of hoping that they are already asleep. No such luck. “You’re late.” Ferb looks up from his book. “Phineas, he’s here.”

“I know.” The other boy is lying on his side, facing away from his pet. “He’s hurt, too. I can sense it.”

Perry winces a little. Phineas is always so happy. Seeing him in so much pain is hard for the little animal. Ferb gets up and walks over to his pet, “Are you okay?”

Pulling out his notepad, the agent writes, “I’m okay. Darthenshmirtz just had a slightly painful trap waiting for me today.”

Ferb lifts him up gently. Perry winces, and struggles a bit. “Sorry.” Suddenly, the boy gasps, “Phineas, he’s bleeding.”

Phineas leaps up and comes over. “This is exactly what I was talking about. Being a rebel is not safe.” He mumbles as he runs out of the room to find some bandages.
Perry twists himself out of Ferb’s arms and writes something else on the pad. “Really, I’m fine.”

The boy picks him up and places him on Phineas’ bed. “Let him clean it up, okay? He doesn’t want anything to change, and you going away… He lost his older sister and his father already to space. He doesn’t want to lose you too.”

The platypus flinches as Ferb gently folds up the tunic so he can see the cut. Phineas comes back in with some simple medical supplies. Perry winces a little as his owners clean and properly bandage the wound.

------------------------------

“Please… if there’s any possible way you could come visit…” Phineas hugs his pet gently, not wanting to hurt him.

Perry smiles and nods. “Krrrrrrr…”

Ferb smiles, “We’re going to miss you.”

The platypus nods again, and points at himself. Phineas bites his lower lip, “You’re going to miss us, too?” Perry smiles sadly. The boy sighs, “I’m sorry I got so mad… I just never want anything to change.”

Perry shrugs, and writes in the dirt, “You’re not the only one.”

“But you have to leave now. And we’ll probably never see you again.” Phineas blinks rapidly, trying to keep from crying.

The platypus winces, and writes, “Please don’t cry. I hate to see people cry.”

Ferb hugs him gently. “Can’t you send us letters?”

The platypus shakes his head. “No, it’s too dangerous. I will try to let you know I am okay as often as possible, though.”

Phineas rubs out the words absentmindedly. He takes something out of his pocket and hands it to Perry. “I made this for you while you were on your mission yesterday.”

Perry holds the small pendant carefully. Suddenly, he realizes what it is. It’s the three of us standing in a hallway holding our lightsabers in a way… they form a P. He runs his fingers over the realistic details, then scratches into the dirt, “I can barely believe it’s not six inches thick.”

Ferb grins, “I know, right?”

Phineas rubs out the words on the ground and replaces them with, “I love you.”

Perry meets the boy’s eyes and hugs him again. He writes under that, “I love you too.”

Both the boys hug their pet one last time. He gives them a package and gets into his spaceship. Once he flies away, Phineas opens it carefully. “It’s a diary. He gave us his diary.”

Ferb smiles, “Well, then I guess he wants us to read it.”

“I wish I hadn’t gotten mad.” Phineas tucks the small book back into the package as they head home.

His brother looks over at him, “But you’re good now, right?”

Phineas nods, “Yeah.”

“Good. Come on, let’s go invent something.” Ferb grabs his brother’s hand and pulls him towards the parts dealership.
