Chapter 20: Secrets

Phineas and Ferb does not belong to me.

Candace is brushing her hair when she hears a quiet knock on her bedroom door. “Hello?” When there’s no answer, she puts down her hairbrush and calls, “Come on in, Ferb!”

The door opens and the quieter of her two brothers comes into the room. “Hey, Candace. Can I talk to you?”

“If this is about Phineas again…” Candace looks at him suspiciously.

Ferb shakes his head. “We’re worried about you. When you left this morning, you seemed so preoccupied.”

The girl straightens up. “And then when he saw me in the interrogation room… wow.”

“How did you know about that?” Ferb tilts his head curiously.

Candace turns away. “You aren’t cleared for that information.”

Ferb stares at her. “You work for O.W.C.A…”

Candace looks down at the ground. “For five years. Listen, Ferb. I know that Phineas hates secrets, and I’ll talk to my boss. But pretty much all that I can tell you without permission from anyone else is that someone named Zon Joshsyn is for some reason after me. Nobody knows why, or what she wants.” Perry comes in as she says this, and looks at Ferb, and then Candace.

“Krrrrr?” Trying to appear as mindless as absolutely possible, Perry chatters a question at Candace. What’s going on? He wants to scream, but he knows that Ferb would probably fall over or something.

“Hey there, Meat-Brick.” Candace lifts him up, placing the platypus next to her on the bed. The nickname meat brick is what Candace uses with Perry as a throwback to when she thought him to be disgusting. He considers it to be a sign of affection, and she uses it as such.

Ferb watches his sister stroke the platypus gently. “Perry doesn’t seem to be getting any older.”

Candace stands up. “Good talk, Ferb.” She gently pushes him out the door. “Can you and Phin maybe look at my dress? There’s a large tear in it, and a small stain that I was hoping you boys could fix. Thank-you.” She closes the door after him and locks it. She sits down next to Perry again and whispers “We need to tell them. It’s not like you’ll get re-located. There are too many secrets, and I’m scared that Phineas will…” She rubs her forehead nervously, and Perry chatters sympathetically.

He writes something on the notepad that Candace keeps by her bed for woman to monotreme talks. “Candace… he won’t ever do that."
She lies back. “How can you be so sure, Perry?”

Perry looks over at her sympathetically. “Phineas used to have nightmares about it. He would describe them to Ferb, and I would be right there in my form of companionship. That’s why I’m afraid to tell them. I just want to stay a mindless platypus. I don’t want to be a…” He chatters sadly and writes something else. “You remember the second dimension. I described their reactions to you. It was horrible. But now, there has been no reason not to tell them. So, he’ll get so mad… I don’t want him to send me away again!”
Candace hugs him. “I won’t let that happen, Perry. But, you may need to have several talks with him. Explain your point of view. Show emotions?”

“Kr.” It’s pretty much a flat out no. Perry is renowned for masking his emotions.

Candace rubs his head fondly. “Oh, come on, you little meat-brick. How about we tell them tomorrow after we discuss it with Coconut and Monobrow.”

Perry and Candace always call Carl and Major Monogram “Coconut and Monobrow” behind their backs. Mainly because it’s funny. They both start giggling. “I guess I can talk to Phineas… I just hope he isn’t too angry at me.”
